“We need this more than they do,” are the words of Andile Jali ahead of the Soweto Derby against rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
The industrious midfielder said, following Pirates’ 1-all draw with Bloemfontein Celtic last night that fans can expect a much stronger showing at the FNB Stadium over the weekend.
“Going into this derby, we have to fight with all that we have got,” said Jali. “We are in a difficult situation at the moment and only a win (against Chiefs) will be good enough for us, simply because we have failed to get maximum points in our two previous (league) matches.
“The overall morale in the team has been growing however we are overdue a victory. Hence we will go into this match wanting to collect all three points . If you look at the situation of both teams coming into this match, there is no doubt that we need this win more than Chiefs do.
He added: “We failed to collect three points at home last night, now it’s time to go into Chiefs’ home to collect the three points there.”
Although the result on Saturday will be key in the overall race to the title, Jali believes it’s still too early for anybody to start celebrating.
“The derby is an important match, without a doubt however I believe the race for the league is far from over. We have 9-10 games remaining – there’s still a lot of football to be played. Of course, we have to start winning, that is for sure but only time will reveal who the real champions are and hopefully that can be us – for the third consecutive year,” he concluded.
