Orlando Pirates coach Rudolf Krol could be without the services of influential midfielder Teko Modise when his men take on Amazulu on Wednesday.

This comes after the Bafana Bafana international was withdrawn from the team on the eve of the goalless draw against BIDvest Wits at the weekend.

Modise was complaining of pain behind his knee –- just behind the calf muscle -- and as a result the medical team deemed the player unfit to play against the Students.

“Teko Modise was withdrawn from the team on the eve of Saturday’s match against Wits after complaining of what is known as poplitious inflammation," confirmed Bucs' biokineticist Mandy-Lee Solomons.

“He attended training this morning as usual, but didn’t partake in the session with the rest of the team as he is still receiving treatment.

“Teko has an appointment with our physiotherapist, John Williams, this afternoon for another session because we are trying our best to ensure that he recovers in time to make the squad.”

Orlando Pirates host Amazulu at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night but it remains to be seen if Modise will recover in time.

Mandy-Lee Solomons said: “Although we will be working around the clock to help Teko recover as soon as he possibly can, it doesn’t look like he will make the squad for Wednesday’s match against Amazulu, maybe for the game at the weekend. "

Solomons was also on hand to confirm that striker Thembinkosi Fanteni has started his rehabilitation programme on his dislocated shoulder.

“Thembinkosi Fanteni is due to start his recovery programme with the club physiotherapist this afternoon after dislocating his shoulder in the match against SuperSport United last week,” said Solomons.
