The South African national Under-20 team captained by Tercious Malepe, defeated Lesotho 2-0 in their 2017 CAF U-20 African Championships match played at Sesotso Stadium in Maseru on Sunday.
Goals from Bivest Wits’ Liam Jordan as well as Pirates’ very own Kamohelo Sithole, were enough to see Amajita move a step closer to qualification.
The visitors got off to the best possible start with Jordan latching on to a wonderfully played cross from Reeve Frosler to head in the opener in the 6th minute.
Amajita could have increased the lead by at least two more goals before the break but goalkeeper Mondli Mpoto was on hand to thwart any advancements to the Lesotho goal.
The match went into the break with South Africa leading 1-0.
Sithole, who is currently in the Orlando Pirates development ranks, was introduced in the second half and marked his Amajita debut with a crucial goal in the 74th minute to cement the victory for Thabo Senong’s men.
The return leg of this encounter will be played in South Africa in a fortnights time.
