Orlando Pirates has finished last in the four-team tournament played in Windhoek, Namibia this past weekend, following their defeat in the 3rd and 4th place Playoff played at the Independence Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Buccaneers, who were knocked out in the semi-final by Mamelodi Sundowns, lost 8-7 on penalties against African Stars. The match also saw Muhsin Ertugral being sent off.
The Dr Hage Geingob Cup was eventually won by Mamelodi Sundowns who defeated Tigers FC 4-2.
Speaking after the game, Assistant Coach Bradley Carnell said: “Look, obviously we are disappointed and were looking to get a better outlook but at the end of the day it was about preparing for the new season. We used this match to try out various combinations.
“For us it is about building blocks…we have a puzzle to build and we have about two to two and a half weeks to build this puzzle. We need to make sure we focus and look to see improvement.”
He added: “We have another friendly on Wednesday and another one the following week so we can get to a good rhythm where the coach wants to go.”
