Mobara delighted to be back in the Bucs Camp

Posted on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 - 17:18

The four Bucs Olympians, Abbubaker Mobara, Gift Motupa, Thabiso Kutumela and Tercious Malepe have re-joined the team for its third and final camp ahead of the start of the new 2016/2017 PSL season.

The quartet rejoined the Team yesterday at the High Performance Institute in Potchefstroom. caught up with Mobara, who was one of the shining stars at the Olympics for a brief chat around his experience of the Games and going into camp for the first time with the rest of his Buccaneer teammates. : Welcome back and congratulations on representing the country at the Olympics?

AM : Yeah thank you. We went there to represent ourselves and the nation which was fully behind us. Unfortunately we were not able to achieve everything we wanted to achieve but I am comfortable with the commitment that we showed. I would say we were unfortunate not to win a game.

We all tried to do all we could to make the country proud but unfortunately the opportunities and the results never came our way. Which meant that we had to leave the tournament early but thatís the nature of the game, there has to be a winner and a loser.

On a personal note the Olympics are the biggest games in the world, it was a big occasion that everybody wants to be associated with, and for me it was an honour and a privilege to be part of that team and represent my country at the biggest sporting arena. : How do you feel about re-joining the Buccaneers?

AM : Monday was my first time back and I am just so excited to be coming straight to Johannesburg and join my new team for the pre-season.

The good thing is that Iím fit because I have been playing all along during the football break, so the only thing thatís left now is to gel with the team as quick as possible because itís important if we want to be successful in the upcoming season.

As players we need to know each other individually, get used to each other and understand what it means to be part of the Orlando Pirates set up as well as understanding where I will play and what role the Coach wants me to play. I think itís important for us who are joining the Team this week to work extra hard on catching up and gel with the rest of the team because thatís the whole point of pre-season. : The Coach has indicated that he might play you as a midfielder as opposed to defence, what are your thoughts on playing in midfield considering that you played at Right Back at the Olympics?

AM : I am not surprised at all because he was the one who promoted me to the first team and he has always maintained that he saw me as a defensive midfielder and nothing else. To me positions are not that important, the key thing is that I fight for a chance to play and when I get that opportunity I make sure that I deliver.

Look, Muhsin is a good Coach, he has his own style of football and is quite knowledgeable in the game. But it has been a while since I played under him so I will have to work just as hard as everyone else to get the playing patterns right, to be on par with the rest of the guys on the tactical and technical aspects that the Coach wants. But Iím excited with what I have seen so far, everyone is working really hard here, the mood is great and the spirits are high which is why I am confident in us as a team.
