MDC: Bucs suffer second defeat

Orlando Pirates MDC team suffered its second successive defeat when they went down 1-0 to Chippa United at the weekend.

Pirates, who came into this match from the back of a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Maritzburg United, failed to bounce back with a win as they succumbed to a spirited Chippa United side.

Bucs started brightly, with the likes of Yusuf Maart and Ricardo Lourenco showing some good touches. The team as a whole created a number of good situations but were unable to make their dominance count.

Chippa would punish Pirates as a mistake by Lindokuhle Mtshali led to a goal for Phetolo Sekome in the 47th minute.

Not long afterwards it was nearly 2-0 when Sekome's strike clipped the top of the crossbar and deflected clear.

However, the Ghost Ship surged back into the game with a steady wave of attacks moving in the direction of Veli Mothwa's goal.

In the latter stages of the second half, Mtshali conceded a penalty which Sekome blazed wide.

Pirates did get the ball into the back of the net later in the half from the boot of Grant Peters but it was ruled out for offside. The Young Buccaneers would have the ball in the back of the net moments later, this time from Thobela Sikhakane, however his strike was also disallowed as he was adjudged to have been in an offside position.

There were no more further alarms as the Chilli Boys held on to record a 1-0 win in Nelspruit.

Bucs will travel to Milpark over the weekend, where they will face the high-flying Bidvest Wits, then the MDC league will take a short recess of a month.
