Tendai Ndoro's strike earned Orlando Pirates a 1-0 win over Free State Stars in an Absa Premiership game played at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday evening.
Despite the victory, Bucs remain sixth in the league standings, while Ea Lla Koto stay 15th on the table.
Stars threatened first through Thokozani Sekotlong and Moeketsi Sekola within the first five minutes of the game, but their two shots missed the target.
The Buccaneers then pushed forward and they managed to grab the lead in the 22nd minute after the Ea Lla Koto defence were caught napping.
Mpho Makola set-up Tendai Ndoro, who beat Stars goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni to make it 1-0 to Pirates. The Zimbabwean netting his eighth league goal of the season.
Ten minutes later Bokang Thlone played a decent cross into the Pirates box, but keeper Jackson Mabokgwane gathered the ball with ease.
Mabokgwane then denied Stars defender David Booysen in the 41st minute to ensure that the first half ended with the home side leading 1-0.
Bucs winger Luvuyo Memela had a chance to double Pirates' lead from a free-kick ten minutes after the restart, but he missed the target.
In the 65th minute, Ndoro tried to score with an acrobatic effort, but the hard-working forward's attempt missed the target without troubling Ngobeni.
Former Kaizer Chiefs keeper Ngobeni produced two great saves to deny Bucs duo Memela and Justice Chabalala in the late stages of the game.
Ndoro was also denied by Ngobeni, who made a brilliant low save following a good move by the Buccaneers with six minutes left on the clock.
Despite Stars' late attacks, Pirates stood firm at the back in the dying minutes of the game and, ultimately, they emerged 1-0 winners on the day.
