I always look to improve - Sikhakhane

Man of the Match! Wikipedia describes it as follows: ďa man of the match award is given to the outstanding player, almost always the one who makes the most impact, in a particular match.Ē

Often this type of accolade is awarded to a player that has been part of the action for a major part of the match but for one Thobela Sikhakhane, it only took eight minutes. Thatís the amount of time it took the young striker to leave his mark as he helped Orlando Pirates defeat Ajax Cape Town 4-2 in a Multichoice Diski Challenge encounter played at the Seisa Ramabodu stadium last week.

Sikhakhane came off the bench with less than ten minutes on the clock to inspire Bucs to an emphatic victory, registering one goal and one assist.

ďIím sure itís a record because in the 10 minutes that I played it was only about 6 minutes where I had impact and Iím sure thatís the 6 minutes that the selectors saw,Ē joked Sikhakane.

ďIím just happy that I could do something for my team in that short space of time. Itís difficult playing in this team because we have good players so when you get a chance to play you need to do well so that you stay on form for the next game. Iím happy that I made an assist for Grant (Peters) because itís important for all the strikers to score goals. It makes it easy for the team if there are lots of scoring options.Ē

He added: ďIt was a tough game; we started well but put ourselves under pressure with the two chances we gave Ajax. When you make mistakes against good teams they punish you. Iím happy that we fought back because it shows thereís a good spirit in the team and we want to win our games. It was a good team effort.Ē

The win over the Urban Warriors over the weekend ensured that the Buccaneers stretch their unbeaten run in the league to six. This weekend presents yet another test for the young Buccaneers as they face the Highlands Park. The Gauteng based outfit are currently in fifth position Ė three points ahead of the Buccaneers who are currently seventh.

Despite winning 4-2 over Ajax, Sikhakhane believes that Highlands Park will be no pushovers. He says that the boys will need to be at their best on the day if they want to secure another three points.

ďWe have another important game which we must win on Saturday,Ē said Sikhakhane. ďHighlands Park are not an easy team to beat, we will have to be at our best on the day. We want to continue moving up the table and we can only do that by winning. Unfortunately there arenít a lot of games left so we have to capitalise on all of them. We are working very hard to keep our momentum so that we go into the game in a positive spirit. We are looking forward to the gameĒ
