MDC Update: Bucs keep marching on

The Orlando Pirates Multichoice Diski Challenge team keeps marching up the log table as they register another victory over the weekend.

Goals from Yusuf Maart and Grant Peters were enough to help the Mighty Buccaneers register a 2-1 victory over Highlands Park in a match played at the Tsakane Stadium on Saturday.

With this victory, Pirates have now collected an impressive 16 points out of a possible 18 in their last six matches. Unfortunately with only four three matches left to play and table-toppers Mamelodi Sundowns winning over this weekend, a league win is out of reach for the Buccaneers however that won’t stop the Pirates ship from influencing the fate of the league title.

The Buccaneers who are currently in seventh place with 21 points, will play host to Bloemfontein Celtic in their next encounter. Phunya Sele Sele are second in the league one point behind Sundowns with 27 points.

This will be the side’s toughest test to date and Head Coach Benson Mhlongo and his charges will need to be ready for a Celtic side led by current Multichoice Diski Challenge top goalscorer Tshegofatso Mabaso who has netted an impressive 11 goals in 12 matches. He is chased by Pirates’ own Grant Peters who sits in second place with 7 goals alongside the Sundowns pair of Keletso Makgalwa and Thabang Sibanyoni.

The match will be played at the Rand Stadium on Saturday, 4 February 2017.
