MDC Update: Bucs fall to Celtic

Posted on Monday, February 06, 2017 - 08:32

Orlando Pirates’ 7- match unbeaten run came to a screeching halt this past weekend when they were downed 3-2 by Bloemfontein Celtic.

Head Coach Benson Mhlongo and his technical team will be scratching their heads this morning as to how their team lost on Saturday after dominating most parts of the match, only to hand Celtic two soft goals early in the match.

Pirates who had come back from two goals down to equalise in the first half through the boot of Bernard Morrison and Yusuf Maart thought they would pull off another come-from-behind victory however, the Buccaneers squandered numerous goal scoring chances and conceded at the death and handed Phunya Sele Sele all three points.

With the defeat Pirates’ already slim chances of claiming the MDC title came to an end. The remaining thing for Mhlongo and his technical team is to regroup and try finish as high up the table as possible.

Next up for the Buccaneers is an away trip to Durban where they will take on defending champions Golden Arrows. The match will be played at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday, 4 February 2017.
