Mobara claims Nedbank Cup POTT Award

Posted on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 - 09:02

Midfelder Abbubaker Mobara has been named the Nedbank Cup Player of the tournament.

The 23-year old beat teammate Mpho Makola and SuperSport United’s Teboho Mokoena to the accolade at the Premier Soccer League Player Awards held at the Sandton Convention Centre last night.

In what has been a rather disappointing season for the Orlando Pirates family, Mobara has been one of the few players to produce consistent performances for the Buccaneers and this was evident in his form in the Nedbank Cup where he led his troops to the final of the competition netting crucial goals in the quarterfinal and semi-final against Bloemfontein Celtic and Golden Arrows respectively.

“I am happy to receive this award as it is testament to the hard work I have been putting in all year but I still believe there’s still more I can do and I plan to do so in the new season,” said Mobara.

Earlier in the evening, the Orlando Pirates chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza paid tribute to the 2017/2016 Absa Premier Soccer League Champions, Bidvest Wits - the league sponsor's, media and broadcaster for their role and contribution throughout the season and welcomed the newly promoted club for the National First Division.

“The 2016/2017 season did not disappoint. Top honours goes to Bidvest Wits. Thank you Brian Joffe and Bidvest for your public spiritedness. Your involvement is helping sustain this 96-year old institution that is the Wits University Football Club.

Gavin Hunt has proven that he can both sprint and run marathons. This season he opened the season with an emphatic win of the MTN 8 and kept a steady hand to win the ABSA Premiership.”
