'All or Nothing’ time for the Bucs MDC

2 February, 2018

All too often in sport we hear the phrase that “this next game is like a cup final for us” and nothing truer could be said for the Young Buccaneers as they go into their weekend clash with Polokwane City at Rand Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With only three games to go before the coronation of 2017/18 Multichoice Diski Challenge winners, the Bucs will have to dig deep to win the remaining three games to stand a chance of overhauling the league leaders, Golden Arrows, and add the only outstanding domestic title to an already impressive portfolio of trophies in the Club’s cabinet. There’s only seven points between the fifth placed Bucs and the MDC Summit, with a crucial game against the log-leaders still to be played. But the Bucs will need to focus on the arrival of Rise & Shine this weekend, and get all three points in order for the fixture with Abafana Bes’thende to be less of a formality.

Orlando Pirates go into the clash with City off the back of a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Free State Stars, thanks to a powerful tight angled shot from skipper Ricardo Lourenco, while the visitors will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs.

Bucs goalkeeper, Tsebo Tsotetsi, who is looking forward to the team getting out there, telling Orlandopiratesfc.com, “This is an important game for us and we cannot afford to drop points. Whoever plays in goal this weekend will need to be strong in marshalling the box and keeping the defence tidy because if we keep a cleansheet, then there’s no way that we can lose. Defensively, we have to do our job so that we give the strikers the freedom to do theirs.”

“It’s true that these last games are like cup finals because anything can happen, especially now as we approach the end of the season. The pressure is on all of us to make sure that we are up for the challenge and that we capitalise on any slips above us. We have to win all our games and not worry about anyone else, except maybe Arrows, since they are setting the pace. They can still drop points this weekend and if we win, then the energy going into our game with them will be even greater. This is what we love about football”, concluded Tsotetsi.
