The First Team has been hard at work as the Technical Team readies them for the start of a grueling 2019/20 campaign.
Fitness and Tactical work has been the main priority for the Brains Trust of Micho Sredojevic, Rhulani Mokwena and Fadlu Davids over the past six days in camp in Rustenburg. However, all this means nothing without testing the machinery against other opposition.
Pirates have played one friendly match so far in this preseason and this was against National First Division outfit TS Sporting over this past weekend. The Buccaneers registered a commanding 4-0 victory on the day with goals coming from Vincent Pule, a Luvuyo Memela brace, and the final goal from Kabelo Dlamini.
The team will be playing a number of friendly matches over the next couple of days as the start of the league nears.
“The objective of preseason is to prepare the team and get them playing in a particular way. This is also an opportunity for us to try out some new things and assess the effectiveness of these new tactical modifications we have added,” said Davids.
“As for the results, this isn’t our priority for now because we are still working on a process but it is encouraging whenever a team is able to express itself with goals the way the boys did this past weekend.”
Following the win over TS Sporting, the Buccaneers will welcome another team bearing the letters “TS” today but this time in the form of the newly assembled and newly crowned Nedbank Cup champions TS Galaxy.
Speaking about the camp so far, and ahead of the Galaxy encounter, coach Davids added: “We’re in a great football environment where the team can focus fully on the task at hand. We got some good information from the first friendly and looking to the next game, it’s all about small progressions and addressing the things we’ve picked up from the previous match.”
