DDC Preview: Cape Town Spurs

Orlando Pirates Reserves visit the Mother City once more this Sunday as they face off against Cape Town Spurs in their next DStv Diski Challenge fixture played at the University of the Western Cape Sports Stadium.

Two-thirds of this season’s Reserve League fixtures have been completed, and it remains tight at the top of the standings where each of the top three teams stands a chance of finishing Match Day 21 at the summit.

Form Guide

The main task for the Bucs Reserves will be to try and maintain their grip on top spot, where they have been stationed for most of the new year while staving off stiff competition from the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch.

Joseph Makhanya’s young troops claimed their third straight victory last Saturday, beating AmaZulu 3-2 at Rand Stadium with Azola Matrose, Lulama Nxumalo, and Mohau Nkota each getting on the scoresheet.

It was their fourth win in their last five matches, taking their points tally to 12 points during this period, where they have notched up 12 goals and let in six.

They now visit a Spurs outfit fresh off a 2-0 defeat away to SuperSport United, which saw them drop down from ninth place to 11th on the log.

The Urban Warriors have endured inconsistent results throughout the season, and the trend has continued into their last five outings where they boast a disappointing five points earned through a single win and two draws. They have conceded six goals in the process, while only netting four of their own.

The Cape outfit was however victorious in their last home game and will be eager to repeat the feat against the young Buccaneers, who are still in search of their first win in the Western Cape this season.

The Bucs Reserves claimed a convincing win in the reverse fixture played at Rand Stadium, where they struck three times without reply before the young Urban Warriors found a late consolation goal to make it 3-1.

This was their first encounter in five years at this level, and the Soweto Giants have now won each of their last three games against the Capetonians.

In doing so, Pirates have found the net an impressive nine times while only conceding three goals.
