DDC Preview: Stellenbosch FC

19 March, 2023

Orlando Pirates Reserves gear up for another tricky fixture as they travel to the Cape Winelands for a DStv Diski Challenge clash against Stellebonsch.

With the season reaching boiling point, the Soweto Giants remain in the hunt for the title and currently sit in third place on the standings, just three points from the top.

Form Guide

It’s a continuation of a demanding stretch of fixtures for the Bucs Reserves, who play a side currently placed in the top five for the third week running.

Their previous two outings yielded a single point, via a one-all draw against second-placed Cape Town City, which kept them firmly in the title chase.

The young Buccaneers have collected 10 points in their last five games, and will be eager to rediscover the form that saw them embark on some impressive winning runs which have characterised their ongoing campaign.

Standing between them and three crucial points is a Stellenbosch side also boasting 10 points in their last five.

The hosts are fresh off a hard-fought victory on the road, and will look to give their home support a reason to smile after falling short in their most recent home game.

With nine games remaining in their campaign, they remain with a mathematical chance of launching an unlikely title defence and could jump from fifth to fourth with a win on Sunday.

Head-to-Head

The Bucs Reserves have been winless in their last two games against Stellies, and will be in search of their first win since October 2021, which they achieved through a solitary goal from Mpumelelo Ndaba.

Since then, they have lost one and drawn once in league fixtures against the team from the Winelands, but there has been nothing to choose between the two sides in terms of overall head-to-head results.

In the five matches played, each side has won twice with one game finishing in a stalemate, and goals have been shared evenly at five apiece.
