DDC Preview: TS Galaxy

15 January, 2023

Orlando Pirates Reserves continue their DStv Diski Challenge campaign on Sunday with a clash against TS Galaxy at Rand Stadium.

Having ascended to the top of the standings, the young Buccaneers have an opportunity to consolidate their position while their opponents attempt to claw their way up to the top half of the table.

Form Guide

While a glance at log position suggests a clash between two teams with contrasting fortunes, it is not the case as neither side has tasted defeat over the last five match days.

Galaxy head into the fixture in 12th place having won their last three games, overturning a poor start to the season where they had gone eight matches without victory.

The young Rockets are no stranger to giant-killing feats with their last win coming against Cape Town City, who were dethroned from the summit by the Buccaneers.

Sunday’s fixture follows another impressive performance from Pirates, who came from a goal down to register a 3-1 over Chippa United.

The result stretched their winning streak to five games, where they have netted 12 goals and conceded just twice.

The Bucs Reserves are also yet to suffer defeat since early October, racking up 17 points in the seven games since.

Head-to-Head

The two sides are evenly matched head-to-head on both the number of wins and goals scored. This is after trading blows in equal measure last season where Galaxy inflicted a 2-0 home defeat on Pirates, who returned the favour weeks later with goals from Thabiso Monyane and Cassius Spandiel.

These remain their only two meetings at this level, having avoided one another in the shortened 2020/21 campaign.
