DStv Diski Challenge Preview: AmaZulu

Orlando Pirates Reserves are back home for their next fixture as they prepare to take on AmaZulu in the DStv Diski Challenge, with the game taking place at Rand Stadium this Saturday.

It’s a return to familiar territory for Joseph Makhanya’s troops, who spent the last two weeks on the road, while their opponents embark on an away assignment after being home for their most recent fixture.

Form Guide 

The Bucs Reserves will be looking to build some winning momentum following their Soweto Derby win against Swallows in Dobsonville, with Kgwadi Molepo and Mehluleli Maphumulo both finding the net to ensure a 2-0 scoreline. 

The victory was their second in four matches, where they have also tasted defeat and played to a stalemate to tally up seven points in the early stages of the campaign.

Now fourth on the standings, they will be in search of another three points that could take them up to second place, but will have to do so against an AmaZulu side seeking a way back to winning ways after defeat in their last outing. 

Like their Buccaneers counterparts, the Usuthu Reserves were engaged in a derby of their own last weekend, but fell to a 2-0 defeat against KwaZulu-Natal rivals Richards Bay FC.

The loss was their second of the season, and they currently boast as many wins as they sit two spots below Pirates in the log.

Head-to-Head 

AmaZulu were the victorious side when the two teams last met - winning 3-1 at Rand Stadium back in March - while Pirates won 2-0 in the earlier fixture played two months prior, thanks to late goals from Boitumelo Radiopane and Nkosinathi Temba. 

While last season ended with the two side on an even footing in terms of head-to-head results, it is the Bucs Reserves who have had the better of recent outcomes in this fixture, with four wins and just two defeats in their last six encounters with Usuthu.
