DStv Diski Challenge Preview: Cape Town City

12 March, 2023

Orlando Pirates Reserves head to the Mother City this weekend for a DStv Diski Challenge clash against Cape Town City at Malta Park Sports Ground on Sunday morning.

The intensity in competition does not let up for the young Buccaneers, who are gearing up for the second of back-to-back fixtures against fellow title-contenders.

Form Guide

The game arrives eight days after they were stunned at home by SuperSport United, who briefly moved to the top of the standings after netting two unanswered goals at Rand Stadium.

The defeat ended a streak of five straight wins for the Bucs Reserves, who slid from the top of the table now find themselves in third place having dropped points for the first time since January.

A win on Sunday could jolt them back to the summit, currently occupied by City, with a mere two-points separating the top three sides.

A 1-0 win on the road against AmaZulu last Sunday helped the Capetonians unseat SuperSport at the top, as they returned to the position they have held for most of the campaign.

The victory extended their unbeaten run to eight games, where they have picked up 18 points, courtesy of five wins and three draws.

Head-to-Head

Pirates will look to avoid falling on the wrong side of a league double, following their 2-0 home defeat to City back in September, and will look to emulate the feats of a little over a year ago where Cassius Spandiel and Thabiso Monyane each netted in the first half to secure victory.

Things are pretty much even as far as recent head-to-head results, as each side sits on two wins, with the 10 goals scored over this period split equally between the two sides.
