DStv Diski Challenge Preview: Chippa United

Orlando Pirates Reserves are in Gqebera for their next fixture, where they will come up against Chippa United at Wolfson Stadium.

It’s a meeting between two teams on opposite ends of the table as the DStv Diski Challenge with only a dozen match days remaining in the 2022/23 campaign.

Form Guide 

The hosts have so far had a season to forget, with the form that had them chasing the title for much of the previous campaign deserting them this time around.

In their 18 matches, they have only managed two wins and four draws for a total of 10  league points.

Chippa’s attempts to escape the bottom of the table have so far been futile, with just one point claimed in their last five games, where they have also only found the net twice while conceding seven goals.

There have not been such issues in front of goal for the Buccaneers, who dethroned Cape Town City from the top of the standings after their 3-0 win over Sekhukhune United last Saturday.

The victory was the Soweto Giants’ 12th in 18 games this season, and they will go in search of win number 13 as they look to consolidate their spot at the top in what is shaping up to be a tight race to the title.

Recent form is in their favour, as they head to the coast on the back of four straight victories with 12 goals scored in their last five matches.

Head-to-Head

Pirates are chasing a double over Chippa, following their 3-1 win when these two sides met in their first Reserve League fixture of 2023.

While the Chilli Boys did overcome the Buccaneers a little over a year to the day, it is the Buccaneers who have dominated the fixture in recent years, with four wins recorded in their last five meetings.

Since September 2019, the Soweto Giants have scored 11 goals against the Eastern Cape-based outfit, who have only found the net five times over the same period.
