DStv Diski Challenge Preview: Golden Arrows

12 November, 2022

Orlando Pirates continue their bid to finish the year strong as they gear up for their DStv Diski Challenge fixture against Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday morning.

With two match days before the competition goes on a break, there is all to play for among the 16 competing teams, and the Bucs Reserves are one of those looking to close the gap between themselves and the early-season pace-setters.

Form Guide

Joseph Makhanya’s young charges have indicated that they could be finally kicking into gear with their last two results by claiming all six available points. The most recent outing was the more emphatic of the two fixtures as they raced to four unanswered goals before conceding a late penalty on their way to a 4-1 win over Marumo Gallants.

This has stretched their unbeaten run to four games, with the eight points earned in this period helping them consolidate their spot in the top half of the table where they currently sit in fifth place, five points from the summit.

While the Buccaneers enjoyed their biggest win of the season, the two-time champions denied current log leaders Cape Town City another three-point haul by holding them to a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

This also meant that for the second week running, the Arrows Reserves were unable to claim maximum points. As a result, they now find themselves outside the top eight in ninth place with seven points earned in their last five outings.

Head-to-Head

The last encounter between the Bucs Reserves and the young Abafana Besthende was not short on fireworks, as the two sides played to a dramatic 2-2 draw with Boitumelo Radiopane providing both goals for the Soweto Giants.

That particular result brought Pirates’ brief dominance in this fixture to an end after they had prevailed with a three-goal margin in each of the two previous meetings.

Arrows however remain with a slight upper hand in recent editions of this rivalry, boasting three wins in the last six matches played.
