DStv Diski Challenge Preview: Golden Arrows

13 May, 2023

Orlando Pirates conclude their DStv Diski Challenge campaign with a home fixture against Golden Arrows, taking place at Rand Stadium on Saturday morning.

The curtain closes on what was an exciting season of the Reserve League with the destination of the title decided after the Buccaneers remained in the race until the penultimate game week.

Form Guide

Their hopes for silverware ended when they played to a goalless draw against Richards Bay in Tsakane, which meant that they could not climb up beyond second place in the league standings.

The Bucs Reserves have stuttered throughout the final stretch of their campaign, collecting eight out of a possible 15 points in their last five matches.

A win on Saturday will ensure that they finish as runners-up, with the final standings determining the seeding for the upcoming Diski Shield

Their opponents have also secured their spot in the top eight, and could finish as high as fourth on the table after an impressive turn of form in the latter part of the season.

Arrows have claimed all 15 points on offer in their five most recent fixtures, and netted two unanswered goals in their last outing against KwaZulu-Natal rivals Maritzburg United.

They will be determined to make it six wins in as many matches with the aim of hitting the 50-point mark in the campaign.

Head-to-Head

Pirates were victorious in the reverse fixture, scoring twice in the last 10 minutes of the game through Jabulani Mokone and Surprise Matjeni to claim a 2-0 win.

They will be hoping for more of the same against an Arrows side they have dominated in recent years, winning three of their last five encounters and drawing twice while scoring 12 goals and only conceding four.

For the visitors, they will see the fixture as an opportunity to claim their first win over the Soweto Giants since the semifinals of the 2019 Diski Shield.
