Orlando Pirates Reserves gear up for a mammoth DStv Diski Challenge assignment in KwaMhlanga, where they will be taking on rivals Kaizer Chiefs in another Soweto Derby on Sunday.
It’s a fitting showstopper for another exciting round of Reserve League football, with the two biggest names in South African football expected to deliver fireworks with crucial log points at stake.
Form Guide
The Bucs Reserves are on a mission to regain some lost ground, having recently dropped down from the summit to third in the standings.
This is a result of a three-game winless run, where they have managed just two out of an available nine points through stalemates on the road against Cape Town City and Stellenbosch.
With eight games remaining in their league campaign, they will look to stay in the title chase by clinching maximum points against their biggest rivals.
However, it will not be as straightforward, as Chiefs come into the fixture on a good run of form in recent weeks, to set up residence in sixth place on the table.
In their last five outings, the young Amakhosi have won four games, dropping points just once in a one-all draw against Mamelodi Sundowns.
They will be gunning for a fourth straight win, which could launch them up as high as fourth in the standings.
Head-to-Head
The two Soweto Giants served up a thriller in their last meeting when Pirates ran off 3-2 winners, with Relebohile Ratomo netting twice on his DDC debut, while Samukele Kabini provided the other Bucs goal.
The result stretched the Buccaneers’ dominant run in recent derbies, with three wins claimed in their last five encounters with Amakhosi at this level.
With a total of 12 goals shared between the two teams during this period, it’s the Bucs Reserves who are in the lead, having netted seven times while letting in just five.
