Orlando Pirates Reserves travel to Soshanguve this Saturday, where they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Diski Challenge fixture at Giant Stadium.
The enthralling season continues with a clash between two of the biggest names in the South African game, who will be closing out the opening day of another highly-anticipated festival of Reserve League football.
Form Guide
They will cross paths for the first time in the campaign while both occupying the top half of the league standings, separated by seven points.
It is the Bucs Reserves who are higher up the table in second place as they enjoy an impressive run of form that has seen them collect six wins on the trot. This streak has yielded 11 goals, taking their win tally for the season to eight in 13 games after a stuttering start.
Following a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to TS Galaxy, the Soweto Giants will be looking to overcome their Tshwane counterparts, who are fresh off a win of their own against Marumo Gallants in their last fixture.
Sundowns have climbed up to sixth place in the standings following their victory, which was their fifth in the ongoing campaign.
They have struggled for consistency, with just two wins recorded in their last five games, where they have drawn once and lost twice.
The young Brazilians have however remained sharp in front of goal, scoring 12 times during this period.
Head-to-Head
A brave fightback from the Buccaneers in the last league meeting between these two sides was not enough to clinch a double over their opponents, as they lost 3-2 following their earlier victory with a similar scoreline weeks prior.
In the last eight editions of this fixture, which include the Diski Shield quarterfinal held last year, the number of wins for each side is evenly distributed at three apiece with the remaining two finishing in a stalemate.
