DStv Diski Challenge Preview: Marumo Gallants

15 April, 2023

Orlando Pirates Reserves make a short trip to Dobsonville Stadium where they will be hosted by Marumo Gallants in a DStv Diski Challenge clash this Saturday.

The title race remains tight heading into the final stretch of the ongoing campaign, with the Soweto Giants among the three sides in the Reserve League with a realistic shot at the coveted trophy.

They were victorious once more over the past weekend, claiming a crucial 2-0 win at home to Royal AM to remain in contention for the title.

It was their third consecutive victory, stretching their unbeaten run to five games with 11 points collected during this period.

The Buccaneers currently sit in third place in the standings, and a win on Saturday could send them up to second with the two teams above them set to square up over the weekend.

Standing between Pirates and another maximum-points haul is a Gallants side looking to bounce back after seeing their own winning run come to an end.

This was a result of a 3-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs, which capped their points tally over their past five outings to nine points - courtesy of three wins on the bounce - while they also dropped from 11th to 12th on the table.

Head-to-Head

The rivalry between Pirates and Gallants only dates back to the 2021/22 season, with the two sides meeting just three times prior to the upcoming clash.

The Buccaneers have so far won all three of their games against Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, who recently got on the scoresheet for the first time in this fixture in a 4-1 defeat at Wits Football Stadium earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, the Soweto Giants have been free-scoring whenever they take to the field against the Limpopo-based outfit, as they boast a total of 14 goals so far.
