DStv Diski Challenge Preview: Royal AM

15 October, 2022

Orlando Pirates Reserves travel to Mpumalanga Stadium for their next DStv Diski Challenge fixture, where they will take on Royal AM on Saturday morning.

The young Buccaneers will be among the first teams on show in another exciting weekend of Reserve League football, with their clash against the KwaZulu-Natal based outfit kicking off the sixth game week of the current campaign.

Form Guide

It has been far from the perfect start for the Soweto Giants, who find themselves in mid-table after a home defeat in their last outing, where a solitary goal was the decider when they fell to AmaZulu at Rand Stadium.

The defeat was their second in the games played so far this season, where they have also managed two wins and a draw.

This has placed them in eighth place in the standings, a fair distance below where they would have hoped to be at this stage of the season, following their winning start to the campaign.

It will be all to play for on Saturday, as they come up against a side sat directly below them on the log and fresh from a stalemate against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Royal AM have collected just one win since the new season got underway, but have only tasted defeat once and played to three draws.

Three points for either side could push them to within touching distance of the table-topping Cape Town City, with both needing consistent results early on in the campaign to realistically launch a title challenge.

Head-to-Head

This will only be the third meeting between these two teams at this level, with the Buccaneers currently sporting a 100% record in this young rivalry.

A first-half strike from Mpumelelo Ndaba was the difference in their first encounter, but there was more daylight on the scoreboard in their most recent clash, where the Soweto Giants clinched a 3-1 win with the help of a brace from Boitumelo Radiopane and a Nkosinathi Temba goal.
