DStv Diski Challenge Preview: Royal AM

8 April, 2023

Orlando Pirates Reserves host Royal AM in their next DStv Diski Challenge fixture, which takes place at Rand Stadium this Saturday.

Three points separate the three teams at the top of the standings with just six games remaining for each side, as the Reserve League shapes up for its tightest finish in recent memory.

Form Guide

The Bucs Reserves are one of the title hopefuls and currently sit in third place after a hard-fought win on the road against AmaZulu.

That was a second consecutive victory for Joseph Makhanya’s young troops, who have claimed eight points in their last five games to remain within the chasing pack.

They will look to make it three wins in as many matches as they gear up for a must-win encounter on their home patch against a Royal AM side facing their third opponent from Soweto in as many weeks.

Having clinched a rare victory against Swallows, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit claimed a point in their most recent outing - a goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs.

They however remain in the bottom half of the table in 11th place after managing a total of five wins in their 24 games.

Thwihli Thwahla have won just once in their last five games, losing twice and sharing the spoils on two occasions to tally up five points during this period.

First-half goals from Sonwabo Khumalo and Mehluleli Maphumulo were not enough to secure maximum points for the Pirates Reserves the last time these two sides met, with Royal AM fighting back in the second half to claim a point as the match finished with a 2-2 scoreline.

That ended the Soweto Giants’ winning run in the fixture after they had emerged victorious in their two previous clashes with the KZN outfit, who they defeated 1-0 in their first ever encounter before clinching a convincing 3-1 win to complete a league double.
