Orlando Pirates Reserves are in DStv Diski Challenge action again this weekend as they host SuperSport United at Rand Stadium on Saturday.

It’s a top-of-the-table clash with the potential to decide which side finishes the week at the summit of the log with a third of the 2022/23 campaign remaining.

It’s the hosts who go into the all-important fixture at the top of the standings, with 42 league points achieved in their 19 matches played so far.

The Bucs Reserves were victorious on the road last weekend, with their 3-1 win over Chippa United stretching their winning streak to five games.

A win on Saturday could push them five points clear of the young Matsatsantsa who are in third place, having amassed 40 points to stay in title contention.

Much like their Soweto counterparts, the Tshwane outfit has enjoyed some terrific form in recent weeks and remain undefeated in 2023.

They have gone on a six-match winning streak, netting an impressive 20 goals and will be eager to carry that momentum into what is one of the most crucial fixtures so far in their hunt for silverware.

Things have been tight in this fixture over the last couple of seasons, with each side winning two of the last six encounters, while the remaining two have ended in a stalemate.

The most recent of these draws came in the current season when Bucs striker Mohau Nkota’s early goal was cancelled out in the second half by United’s Sibusiso Maziko.

The Bucs Reserves go into Saturday’s game looking to beat Matsatsantsa for the first time since January 2020, when they netted three unanswered goals to claim maximum points away from home.
