They say time heals all wounds but this is one wound which cannot be healed.
Today marks the 16th year since this football loving nation witnessed one of its worst sporting disasters.
The Ellis Park Disaster as it is known today was as a result of 43 supporters losing their lives during a match between Soweto Giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
16 years on we look back on this day and remind ourselves that such a day should never repeat itself again. The country has already witnessed two stadium tragedies in the Orkney Disaster of 1991 - where 41 supporters lost their lives, and the Ellis Park Disaster. These two disasters serve as a constant reminder of what should never happen again in our lifetime.
