Orlando Pirates will renew rivalries with Sekhukhune United when they begin their MTN8 title defence this month, following the confirmation of the quarterfinal details on Friday afternoon.
The first cup competition that will be contested in the 2023/24 season commences on Saturday 12 August, with the Buccaneers among the eight teams set to battle it out for a new-look trophy in the coming weeks.
After triumphing in the tournament late last year – winning their second title in three years – the Soweto Giants are now set for a replay of this year’s Nedbank Cup final after being pitted against Babina Noko in the opening round.
They will host the Limpopo outfit at Orlando Stadium in the fixture which takes place next Saturday at 18:00.
Pirates is the most successful team in Top-Eight competition in the PSL era, with a total of six triumphs since claiming top honours in the competition back in 1996. Four of the Buccaneers’ triumphs in the competition have come during its current incarnation as the MTN8.
The Club claimed its most recent title November 2022, going past Royal AM and Mamelodi Sundowns before overcoming AmaZulu in the final held at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
With the coveted piece of silverware that has been contested for over a decade now retired, it permanently resides with the Soweto Giants.
Tickets for the quarterfinal clash against Sekhukhune are on sale, and are available at TicketPro outlets nationwide.
