Orlando Pirates Reserves’ DStv Diski Challenge campaign continues this Saturday with a home clash against Lamontville Golden Arrows.
Rand Stadium hosts another vital fixture for the Bucs Reserves, who are currently locked in an intense battle for top honours.
Form Guide
They will have to quickly dust themselves off from the disappointment of their last result, after falling to a 1-0 defeat away to Mamelodi Sundowns in Soshanguve last Sunday.
The loss was only their fourth of the season but saw them relinquish their spot at the top of the table to Stellenbosch after managing nine points out of a possible 15 in their last five matches.
Still yet to be beaten at home, the young Buccaneers have their sights set on a return to the summit ahead of what is shaping up to be a tight race for the title, as only a single point separates the teams occupying the top three.
Pirates will be squaring up against a side lower down the table in eighth place, who will nonetheless be a tough nut to crack having enjoyed a decent turn of results over the past few weeks.
The men from the coast registered a comfortable 2-0 over Cape Town Spurs in their last outing, and are unbeaten in their last three games where they have found the net an impressive 10 times.
They have claimed eight points in the last five weeks, only suffering a single defeat during this period, and will be determined to push themselves higher up the standings.
Head-to-Head
The Bucs Reserves were victorious when the two sides met at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium earlier in the year. Despite finishing the game a man short, Joseph Makhanya’s young troops were comfortably over the line in the end, winning 3-0 through first-half goals from Simphiwe Selepe, Lonwabo Magugwana, and Relebohile Mofokeng.
They now have an opportunity to complete their second consecutive league double over Abafana Bes’thende, who are still seeking their first win in the fixture in over five years.
The Soweto Giants have been victorious in four of their last five encounters with the Durban outfit, only failing to clinch maximum in a dramatic two-all draw during the 2021/22 campaign.
