Orlando Pirates Reserves host AmaZulu at Rand Stadium in their next DStv Diski Challenge fixture, which takes place on Saturday morning.
It’s a clash between teams at opposite ends of the table, going into the encounter equally determined to bag all points on offer as the season approaches the final stretch.
Form Guide
The hosts come off an epic eight-goal thriller away from home, where they twice came from behind to clinch a 5-3 win over Royal AM after trailing by a goal with only a minute left of regulation time remaining.
The result helped them maintain pole position with 11 games left to play, having collected nine points in their last five fixtures through three victories.
Things remain extremely tight at the top, with Pirates’ superior goal difference keeping a semblance of daylight between themselves and second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns. The two Gauteng rivals are tied on 41 points, only two ahead of Stellenbosch, with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City also within a fair shout for the title.
The young Usuthu are meanwhile some distance away from the race for top honours, having found themselves near the basement in 15th place.
This is after a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Sundowns ended a two-match unbeaten run – their longest so far in the ongoing campaign.
With just four points taken from their last five outings, the Durban outfit heads to Rand Stadium in search of an upset that could impact the contest between the main frontrunners for the championship.
Head-to-Head
The Bucs Reserves have an opportunity to complete a double over Usuthu, following their victory in the reverse fixture played at Princess Magogo Stadium earlier in the season. Lonwabo Magugwana, Mehluleli Maphumulo, and Sibusiso Magadla all found the net in the second half as the Soweto Giants cantered to a 3-0 win on the day.
Recent results in the fixture have however favoured the away team, with each of the last five games won by the visiting side.
During this period, Pirates have had a slight edge, winning three and losing twice while netting seven of the 11 goals shared between the two sides
