Orlando Pirates Reserves take to the road this weekend as they travel to Durban where they will take on AmaZulu in their next DStv Diski Challenge fixture on Sunday.
Chatsworth Stadium will provide the backdrop as the two of the oldest surviving professional clubs in South African football renew rivalries in the Reserve League.
Form Guide
They cross paths while on opposite ends of the league table, with Usuthu occupying a lowly 12th in the standings after seven games.
The team from KwaZulu-Natal was however victorious in their last outing, beating at 10-man TS Galaxy 2-1 to ascend from the bottom three.
It was only their second victory of the season, and six out of the seven points they’ve managed to collect in the current campaign have come in their last five fixtures, signalling a turnaround in fortunes after a difficult start to the campaign.
They take on a Bucs outfit desperate to bounce back after managing a single point in their most recent outing against Polokwane City at Rand Stadium last Saturday.
The Soweto Giants have collected 10 points out of a possible 15 in their last five games, where they have bagged three wins, losing once, and playing to a single draw. In doing so, they have found the net 11 times, with their defence only breached twice.
They currently sit in second place on the standings and could climb up to first if results go their way over the weekend, but only if they also hold up their end of the bargain by dispatching the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit.
Head-to-Head
There was nothing to separate these two sides last season, with the Buccaneers bouncing back from a 1-0 home defeat by prevailing with a similar scoreline on their visit to Usuthu.
This continued a trend that began in the previous campaign, where each team managed a single win in the two fixtures played over the course of the season.
In a rivalry that has been among the more exciting in the Reserve League in recent years, each of the last six meetings between Pirates and AmaZulu has produced a winner, with the Soweto Giants emerging victorious four times and losing twice.
