DDC Preview: Cape Town Spurs

Orlando Pirates Reserves will again be in action in the DStv Diski Challenge, as they host Cape Town Spurs at Rand Stadium on Saturday morning.

It’s the last weekend of action before the Reserve League goes into recess, and the two sides will be eager to bag maximum points to push within striking distance of the top spot as the season nears its midpoint.

Form Guide

Ahead of Match Day 12, they are separated by just four points with the Bucs Reserves sitting in second place after winning seven of their 11 matches.

Pirates hit a bump on the road in their last outing, falling to their second defeat of the season at the hands of defending champions SuperSport United who came from a goal down to claim a 3-1 win.

It was their first loss since early October and only their second this season, bringing to an end a five-match unbeaten run that featured four wins and a single draw.

Facing the Soweto Giants is a Spurs outfit currently enjoying a healthy streak of their own, with no defeats recorded since the halfway mark of the previous month.

The young Urban Warriors are fifth in the standings after an emphatic 4-0 win away to Chippa United in their most recent outing.

They head to the clash with only two points dropped in their last five matches, where they have bagged an impressive four wins.

Due to Spurs’ lengthy absence from the top flight, and consequently the Reserve League, these two sides have gone five seasons without crossing paths.

Saturday’s clash will be their first encounter since October 2017, when goals from Justice Chabalala and Grant Peters handed Pirates a 2-0 win in Tsakane.

That was the second of back-to-back victories for the Buccaneers, who had also posted a 4-2 victory over the Urban Warriors when the two sides met in Bloemfontein the previous season.
