Orlando Pirates Reserves remain on the road for Match Day 2 of the 2023/24 DStv Diski Challenge as they travel to Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium for a clash against Richards Bay on Saturday.
The new season of the Reserve League is in full swing after kicking off with a derby festival filled with fireworks
Form Guide
The home side finished two spots from the foot of the table in the previous season and find themselves in familiar territory in 13th place at the start of the new campaign.
This is after kicking things off with a 2-1 defeat to KwaZulu-Natal rivals Royal AM in their opening fixture at King Zwelithini Stadium.
In a bid to improve on their performance from their maiden season in the league, the young Natal Rich Boys will be on a mission to claim all three points on home turf.
They come up against a Buccaneers side fresh off a testing Soweto Derby against rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the opening week.
Pirates have a point to their name at this stage of the competition after they were held to a 1-1 draw in Durban after striker Mehluleli Maphumulo’s 20th-minute goal was cancelled out 10 minutes later.
The result has placed them in 10th place in the standings, and they will be looking to begin their ascent up the table early in the season ahead of what could be another tight race to the title.
Head-to-Head
Bucs Reserves’ last encounter with their Richards Bay counterparts yielded a single point after they were held to a goalless draw on the penultimate weekend of the 2022/23 season.
That was the Natal Rich Boys’ first point in this fixture after suffering a 2-0 defeat in the only other clash between the two sides, where Njabulo Mndebele and Mpumelelo Ndaba each found the net in the second half to hand the Buccaneers a home victory.
