The countdown to the Pirates Cup is on, and teams have just under a month to go for the 6th instalment of the competition.
The closing date for registration is fast approaching, and teams are being urged to submit their registration forms before the deadline.
For the first time in the tournament’s history, a female division will be included, and the total prize pool on offer has increased.
The winning male team will take home R70,000; while the runnerβs up and third place finishers will walk away with R35,000 and R10,000, respectively.
For the female division, first prize is R40,000. Second prize R10,000 and third place R5,000.
There will also be individual prizes up for grabs for the Tournament MVPs and the Top Goal Scorers of the respective categories.
The Pirates Cup is a highly competitive tournament that sees some of the best under 21 players compete for the coveted trophy. In 2022, Ambassadors defeated Zimbabwean outfit Bosso 90 (Highlanders) 2-1 in a closely contested final.
The tournament is not only a showcase for young football talent but is also an opportunity for players to gain exposure to professional clubs and scouts. Many of the players who have participated in previous tournaments have gone on to play in the DStv Premiership.
The tournament will take place at the Marks Park Sports Grounds from March 18 to 21.
