Pirates Face Mystery Foe in Nedbank Cup Defence

Orlando Pirates face a trip to Mpumalanga for the start of their Nedbank Cup title defence, following Thursday’s Round of 32 draw.

The Buccaneers’ first-round opponents are yet to be confirmed and currently compete in the SAFA regional structures..

It’s a step into the unknown for the defending champions, who kick off their bid for a 10th title with a clash against an unfamiliar foe.

Jose Riveiro’s men were victorious in the 2022/23 edition of the competition clinching a dramatic 2-1 victory in the final against Sekhukhune United at Loftus Versfeld.

They recorded victories against All Stars FC, Venda Football Academy, as well as Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs en route to the final, and will again be eager to steer clear of a potential upset in a competition that has produced a fair share of giant-killing feats.

The Nedbank Cup is slated to begin towards the end of February, with venues and kick-off times set to be revealed in due course.
