Preview: Carling Cup All-Star XI vs Stellenbosch

There will be a heavy Orlando Pirates presence in the Carling Cup All-Star XI outfit when they take on Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Football lovers will be treated to the groundbreaking fixture that will feature the country’s finest football talent squaring up against one of the in-form teams in South African football, fresh off a maiden cup triumph.

Match Overview

First-team head coach Jose Riveiro will lead the All-Stars technical team, joined in the dugout by Bucs Reserves mentor Joseph Makhanya. The duo will coach a team consisting of the best players across the league, including four Buccaneers who will form part of the starting XI as voted for by the fans.

The Pirates contingent features an exciting mix of youth and experience, with two members of the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) outfit.

Fullback Jabulani Mokone has been named on the right side of the defence following his eye-catching displays in the Reserve League. The teenager will line up alongside teammate Kagiso Mnguni, who is also penned in to start on the flank.

Meanwhile, Bucs star Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo is expected to lend some valuable experience to a rather youthful midfield quartet after earning a late call-up to the squad.

The All Stars will come up against a high-flying Stellenbosch outfit that has proven difficult to beat, with no defeats recorded against their name since late September.

Steve Barker’s troops recently bagged a historic title and will be eager to cement their status as the ultimate Carling Knockout champions by triumphing against the best the league has to offer.

The men from the Winelands will have to do without midfielder Jayden Adams, who has joined the Bafana Bafana camp ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
