It was a seamless return to winning ways for Orlando Pirates Reserves in the Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC) as they registered a 2-1 victory over Bidvest Wits at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Heavy rains across Gauteng over the weekend had seen the fixture, which was originally set to take place on Saturday, postponed with concerns over player safety.
It was all systems go on Wednesday, and the home side proved to be up for it with goals on either side of halftime.
MDC Bucs' top goal scorer for the season, Sifiso Luthuli was the first to get on the scoresheet as he put his side in front in the 22nd minute.
The home side carried a slim lead into halftime, but did not have to wait too long after emerging from the tunnel to grab their second goal.
This is after Simo Bophela netted in the 50th minute to give the young Buccaneers a handy two-goal cushion with plenty of football still to be played.
That lead would prove more than useful, as a late surge from Wits saw them pull one back with just eight minutes on the clock, leading to a nervy finish.
The MDC Bucs held on for three more points, closing the gap between themselves and their opponents, which now stands on four points with seven matches left to play.
Starting XI: Thuntsane (GK), Buda, Ramonyai, Galada, Mazibuko, Mbangwa(Tshobeni 45'), Sepeng (Molgoshi 52'), SA Bophela, SW Bophela (Tsotetsi 65'), Luthuli, Mofokeng (C)
