The Orlando Pirates Technical Team will be sweating over the fitness of Luvuyo Memela for the crucial Absa Premiership clash against Bidvest Wits over the weekend.
Amigo, as he is affectionately known, suffered a gash to the leg in Pirates’ 0-0 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday evening after a clash with Downs captain Hlompho Kekana.
According to the Bucs team doctor who attended to the injury last night, the 31-year old required stitches.
“Luvuyo suffered a deep laceration to the right anterior thigh,” said Dr Matebula. “The laceration was 4cm by 2.5cm deep extending to the fascia and was bleeding profusely.”
“The wound was cleaned and sutured on the inside and the skin closure done with four nylon stitches. Anti-tetanus toxoid vaccine and antibiotics were also given as precaution.”
The Technical Team will assess the player during the course of the week before deciding on whether to risk selecting the player for the clash against the Students.
