Nedbank Cup: Pirates Set to Host Hungry Lions

Orlando Pirates will be home to ABC Motsepe Championship outfit Hungry Lions in the Round of 16 of the 2023/24 edition of the Nedbank Cup.

The Soweto Giants cantered into the next round of the competition with a ruthless display over fourth-tier side Crystal Lake, winning 6-0 in the game played at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

They will be looking to take another step towards their 10th triumph in the national cup when they square off against the men from the Northern Cape, who are in the Round of 16 after edging past fellow first-division outfit JDR Stars in their marathon encounter in Soshanguve.

Formed in the 1980s, Hungry Lions go into their game against the defending champions looking to break into the last eight of the competition for the first time in their history. Their best finish was a Round of 16 exit in 2020 when they lost on penalties to Baroka, following a 2-2 stalemate after 120 minutes.

Ditau now face a daunting challenge following Monday’s draw, where they were matched against the nine-time champions currently gunning for a second cup double in as many years having already defended one title in the ongoing season.

The fixture will take place at Orlando Stadium, with the date and kick-off time set to be confirmed in due course.
