OPPOxPIRATES Goal of the Month August Nominees Revealed

31 August, 2022

The OPPOxPirates Goal of the Month competition returns for the first time in the new season, with six goals nominated for the big prize.

With the return of the competition, a lucky Bucs fan - along with the player whose goal is voted the best of the lot - stands to win a brand new OPPO A57s smartphone, just for simply voting for their favourite goal scored in August.

The opening month of the season did serve up some important goals as the Soweto Giants got to a solid start to their campaign, ending the month on top of the league standings while also progressing in cup competition.

With help from votes cast by “The Ghosts”, one of six goals scored by the Buccaneers in August will be named this season’s first OPPOxPirates Goal of the Month.

The nominees are:

A: Nkosinathi Sibisi vs Stellenbosch

The Bucs defender netted his first goal for the Club in only his second competitive appearance when he opened the scoring in the 1-1 league draw against Stellenbosch. With Pirates awarded a corner kick just moments before halftime, Sibisi was quick off the blocks as he rushed in from deep to beat the defence to the ball and deliver a bullet header straight into the back of the net, leaving the keeper rooted to the spot.

B: Vincent Pule vs Royal AM

Midfielder Vincent Pule got his name on the scoresheet for the first time this season when he netted the opener during the recent 2-1 MTN 8 quarter-final win over Royal AM. The 30-year-old benefited from a stroke of luck as the ball was played onto his path as the Durban outfit attempted to build from the back, and was composed enough to pick his spot on the far corner, connecting sweetly with the ball with his trusted left foot to beat and outstretched Xolani Ngcobo.

C: Bienvenu Eva Nga vs Swallows

Pirates’ first goal of the season came from the boot of new signing Bienvenu Eva Nga, who announced himself to the Bucs faithful as he got off the mark on debut. The striker made a clever run outside Kabelo Dlamini, who teed him up inside the box, and made no mistake in sending the ball out of the keeper’s reach.

D: Thabiso Monyane vs Royal AM

Rising star Thabiso Monyane netted his first senior goal as the Buccaneers triumphed over Royal AM in the MTN 8 in Durban, doubling his side’s lead early in the second half. The 22-year-old made a fantastic run down the right flank, where he was played in by Goodman Mosele before his low shot from the edge of the box proved too tricky for the keeper, whose deflection directed the ball over the goal line.

E: Paseka Mako vs Marumo Gallants

Wing-back Paseka Mako was the hero in another vital league win for the Soweto Giants when he provided the only goal in the 1-0 win at home to Marumo Gallants. This was in the third minute of the encounter, where striker Zakhele Lepasa manoeuvred his way behind the defence down the right, following his run up with a cross that struck the far post prior to Mako doing the rest with a well-taken first-time shot down inside the penalty area.

F: Deon Hotto vs Royal AM

In the Buccaneers’ league clash against Royal AM, a goal from Deon Hotto proved to be the difference as he netted after the half-hour mark to give his side what would eventually be the winner. The Namibian international combined with Thabiso Monyane, receiving a perfectly-weighted cross from the right as he struck the ball firmly from just inside the box.
