Pirates Drawn Against Dondol Stars in Nedbank Cup Quarterfinals

13 March, 2023

Orlando Pirates will travel to Tshwane for their next Nedbank Cup fixture, where they will meet Dondol Stars in the quarterfinal.

The fixture was confirmed during the live draw held at the SuperSport studios in Randburg on Monday following the conclusion of the competition’s Round of 16 over the weekend, where a hard-fought 2-1 win over Championship outfit Venda Football Academy ensured that the Buccaneers secured a spot in the Last Eight.

With seven top flight teams and just one from the lower leagues remaining, the Soweto Giants were drawn against the ABC Motsepe League side, which has captured the imagination with their giant-killing feats in this year’s edition of the competition.

In what has been a dream season for the Tshwane outfit, they have already claimed two big scalps in the previous rounds, with Premiership sides SuperSport United and AmaZulu both falling on the wrong side of this season’s biggest upsets.

They will be looking to add the prized scalp of the Buccaneers, who began their campaign with a straightforward 2-0 away to All Stars before clinching victory in extra time against Venda.

Having last made the quarterfinals in the 2020/21 season, Pirates will be aiming to avoid a banana peel in their bid to secure a semifinal spot for the first time since falling on the last hurdle in the 2016/17 instalment of the competition.

The League will announce fixture dates, kick-off times and match venues in the coming days.
