Born and raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Hlongwa started playing football for his local neighbourhood team in Newlands East, called Newlands United. He then moved on to represent KZN Academy in an U19 international tournament before playing for Durban FC in the Vodacom League for to seasons. It was during his time at Durban FC when Orlando Pirates spotted the young centre-back and brought him across to join the MDC team. After two seasons on loan to Real Kings in the NFD, Brian is back with the Buccaneers and ready to bring silverware to Orlando in his first professional season.
Brian enjoys his time off the pitch with his friends and family, going to the movies, listening to music and visiting the Church when he isn’t playing on the weekends. The 23-year old Happy Jele-fan hopes to emulate the success of his role model with the Orlando Pirates first team.
